Job Title: Associate Product Line Manager - Equipment and Accessories

Reports to: Business Unit Director, Alpine and Equipment

General Summary

As the Associate Product Line Manager for Equipment and Accessories, you will assist the Technical Business Unit Director in the development of product, marketing, and assortment strategies for the Equipment and Accessories lines. With an understanding of the Patagonia brand, the Equipment and Accessories markets, and specific category knowledge, you will help build product lines that deliver innovation while growing market share and category profitability. Additionally, you’ll help maintain necessary sales, competitor, marketing and business information in a manner that enables the category Technical Business Unit Director to effectively manage a particular product segment of the company. You will also be responsible for maintaining all systems and marketing information related to Equipment and Accessories categories for communication to our Marketing and Sales area. Ultimately, your contributions in this role directly support our mission to save our home planet.

What You’ll Do
Assist the Technical Business Unit Director in delivering product that helps increase revenue, gross margins, and market share
Support the Technical Business Unit Director in developing a line that resonates with the global market
Manage the product briefs and other forms of product communication to Design, Development and Fabric teams
Maintain the category line plan, retail price structure, and color information within the PLM system
Deliver complete and accurate product information to company division for Marketing, Sales and other communication needs
Market Research
Gain insight into proper line development by exposure to consumer and/or sport end user
Articulate opportunities/concepts to the company – flow information into the Design team, production, sales channels and buying groups
Responsible for keeping a pulse on competitor products, their brand strengths and weaknesses and identifying and articulating opportunities related to insights
Gather input from sales channels/buyer/market to help in line development
Forge bonds with international channels to facilitate information flow
Product Development
In partnership with design, help develop products that stay true to Patagonia’s design principles
Foster and develop strong working relationship with Patagonia’s marketing department so as to ensure information flow
Help explore and develop environmental breakthroughs
Evaluate and propose strategies that include elements of risk
In partnership with the Technical Business Unit Director, responsible for ensuring that all category products represent Patagonia’s quality standards
Marketing
Craft tools and implement marketing messages to create a line point of view
Communicate line stories to Patagonia and position and market stories to the consumer
Maintain accurate records and files necessary to support marketing programs and initiatives
Participate in planning and execution of global marketing materials including catalogs, advertisement, point of purchase, garment hang tags, and sales materials

Experience You Bring
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA preferred
Extensive experience in the sports and/or markets targeted by this line
5+ years sales or marketing experience in wholesale, retails or direct businesses
Strong written, verbal and quantitative skills
Proven performance history with domestic and offshore vendors and manufacturers
Comprehensive knowledge of all types of packs with a keen understanding of construction and development technologies, material construction and properties, and costing
Thorough understanding of equipment in the outdoor industry
International experience and language skills (French, German, Italian or Japanese) desired
